I have read the article   To kill or not to kill by Patrick Smith from scholastic news. It talks about the number of execution has fallen sharply and more states have gotten rid of capital punishment and is the death penalty on its way out. Some people believe the death death penalty is more like torture of the murderer. Others  believe it's okay to kill the criminal who did this . The execution now is lethal injection but sometimes it can carry on for hours or a few minutes and it has sometimes unexpected side effects. The author wants the reader to know about  how theres been a sharp fall in executions and what happened with present day execution and how it for some prisoners is torture when injected.

An example would be the execution Joseph r. Wood by lethal injection. The man took 640
Gasp before he actually died. They botched up killing a man with the injection instead making him die a slow and painful death. The European manufacturers refuse to sell the drugs for being used in executions. It has forced prisons to try untested drugs which could have worse side affects then what happened to John r. Wood. This shows the reader that present day killing of criminals has become more like a torture of them. This shows them the present day execution and how the using untested drugs on people for killing them is really just making them suffer more.

In the text of this article it says  "that the annual executions have gone 93 in 1999 to 39 in   2013". I feel that's horrible that people would have to go through the torture of being tested on Like Ginny pigs and have to suffer through the pain while being slowly killed. Another example would be Clayton lockett who was convicted for murdering a 19 year old woman. He was sentenced to die by lethal injection but was  injected with a untested drug combination of a sedative a paralyzing agent that had failed. The drug kicked in 30 minutes later and he had a heart attack and died. The lawyer of lockets Dean Sandford said "it looked like torture to me". It looks like America may have less executions but it does have more torture.

I think this article has really changed me because at first I was ok with people dying because they had murdered others but the way there being killed is not ok I'm completely against execution. I think I would like to further research more about botched  execution because it was really interesting to learn what happened. After reading this article I realize that it's not okay to give a prisoner a untested drug that could just make them go through torture and excruciating pain.
